The Solution
Bespoke Joinery & Interlocking Gale-Proof Rafters
I design and hand-build garden structures using strong, heavy-duty timber. I use thick, 4x4 or 6x6 pressure-treated structural redwood posts, and construct frames using strict structural carpentry principles.
Instead of just screwing joists flat to the sides of the posts, I hand-cut **interlocking rafter-notch joints** (rafter locking). This distributes weight naturally and locks the timber together so the structure remains completely rock-solid. I anchor frames deep into poured concrete piers and use marine-grade stainless steel fixings so they stay solid.
