The Carpenter Behind DeckWorx
About Alfie and DeckWorx
DeckWorx is Alfie Jaques, a City & Guilds qualified carpenter who builds decking, pergolas and pagodas in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. It's a new business, I work alone, and decks and pergolas are all I build.
My Story
Why did I start DeckWorx?
After college I could have gone to work for another carpenter. I wanted to work on my own, do my own thing. I also wanted to specialise. A general carpenter does a bit of everything … kitchens, floors, skirting, sheds. I'd rather be the guy who does decks and pergolas.
My first build was a deck and pagoda at my family's home. It came out well, and it taught me where the care goes: the one thing I'd change is the stud work under the deck.
I'm new, so I won't claim a track record I haven't got. Customer builds go in the gallery as each one is finished. Until then, judge me on the quote. I'll talk the spec through with you myself, and the price comes written out item by item, because, as I learned at college, the more detail you give, the better.
One Person, Start to Finish
The person who quotes your job is the person who builds it. No crew rotating in and out, no subcontractors, one garden at a time.
Proper Joints, Then a Clean Site
"I don't just lay them on top. I actually cut out the joints." And at the end of each day, I clear up.
Straight Answers
If a simple square kit would do the job for you, I'll say so. If you need a fence, a shed or a kitchen, I'm not the right person.
